Greg Ganz

Greg is a graduate of the University of Sydney, having completed a Bachelor of Economics degree in 1978, Bachelor of Laws degree in 1980 and Master of Laws degree in 1985.

He is a former member of the Law Society's Specialist Accreditation Taxation Advisory Committee and the Taxation Institute of Australia's Education Committee.

Greg is the author of a number of papers on taxation and superannuation matters and lectures on these topics to practitioners. He practices extensively in all areas of SME taxation including domestic and international tax, GST, stamp duty and payroll tax, and advises on all areas of superannuation with particular emphasis on self-managed funds. He has a particular interest in the area of taxation of trusts, having given extensive advice on recent developments in that area and advises extensively on estate planning, especially where the assets are held by trustees of trusts.

Examples of recent projects include:

  • advising vendors on tax aspects of sale of shares and businesses and drafting of documents to implement;
  • advising generally on tax effective structures for joint ventures with particular regard to CGT aspects and drafting of documents to implement;
  • advising on superannuation limited recourse borrowing arrangements;
  • advising on excess superannuation contributions and drafting of submissions to the ATO;
  • advising generally on trust tax issues;
  • drafting of complex notices of objection involving domestic and international tax aspects;
  • advising on GST aspects of transactions;
  • drafting of documents for estate planning involving assets held by individuals and by trustees of trusts;
  • advising purchasers on purchase of shares and drafting of documents to implement.
